As I began comparing colleges during high school, the technical college system quickly stood out. The reasonable tuition, hands-on learning environment, focus on practical skills and ability to complete my nursing degree in just two years meant I could enter the workforce and begin serving patients sooner.
Through Start College Now and Dual Credit courses, I was able to start earning college credits while still in high school. I joined Student Senate and feel included on campus before even walking at my high school graduation, which made the transition to college feel natural.
Choosing nursing was still an arduous decision because I struggled with the doubt that I wasn’t talkative or outgoing enough to excel at the job. What ultimately reassured me was the environment of Moraine Park Technical College that promotes a safe space for students to grow. Through campus leadership roles and involvement in student organizations, I’ve been given meaningful opportunities to step outside of my comfort zone and strengthen my confidence and interpersonal skills. The technical college system has prepared me academically and supported my personal growth into a compassionate student leader.
