I chose to enroll in a technical college for a variety of reasons, but most importantly because the values that technical colleges uphold resonate with the person that I am. After moving to northern Wisconsin from coastal Maine in the summer of 2021 I was searching for a place to pursue my goal of advancing my medical credentials and my experience in the field of health occupations. Of all the options available to me, Nicolet College stood out from the rest because of its culture, reputation, and campus. As someone who spent the last 10 years of their professional life working in education, I was yearning to be part of an educational environment that promoted diversity, embraced community, and fostered strong relationships between teachers and students; all things I believe Wisconsin Technical College System institutions unanimously strive to achieve. All technical colleges, as a direct result of their work to break down the barriers that individuals face to accessing education, create spaces where learning is not just a means to an end but is a transformative, engaging, and fulfilling experience. At the end of the day, that is the type of education that I want and that everyone deserves - one that does not discriminate and reflects the incredible diversity of humanity.
