Wisconsin Technical College System Board elects officersSUPERIOR – S. Mark Tyler will continue to serve as president of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Board through May 2013. Tyler was elected to a second term during the State Board’s meeting at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Superior this week. Tyler, president of OEM Fabricators, Inc., was first appointed to the WTCS Board in 2007. The Board also elected Drew Petersen as vice president and John Schwantes as secretary. Governor Scott Walker recently appointed both Petersen and Schwantes to the Board. The most recent appointee on the Board, Philip Baranowski, attended his first meeting this week. Governor Walker appointed the former member of the Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC) District Board, to the Board on July 2. Baranowski, Green Lake, retired as superintendent of Green Lake Public Schools in 1993 and served on the MPTC Board for 32 years. In other actions, the Board approved Strategic Directions for 2012-2015, developed with input from over 3,000 stakeholders, including business and industry leaders. The strategic directions include:
The WTCS Board is the governing body for the Technical College System. The 13-member Board established statewide policies and standards for educational programs and services provided by the 16 technical colleges. The Board is also responsible for administering state and federal aids to the colleges. All members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Wisconsin Senate. About the System: Wisconsin’s Technical Colleges offer more than 300 programs, awarding two-year associate degrees, one- and two-year technical diplomas and short-term technical diplomas. In addition, the System is the major provider of customized training and technical assistance to Wisconsin’s business and industry community.
