CertificationCertification is the process of providing qualification documentation required by the Wisconsin Technical College System Board. The certification process begins after you are hired at one of the 16 technical colleges. Certification is required for instructors, counselors, librarians, administrators, and other specialists at the colleges. The type of certification depends on whether you are full-time or part-time. Initial certification is for three years, but additional coursework is required to renew your certification, depending on the type of position for which you were hired. The process includes submittal of an application form, transcripts and forms from current or previous employers verifying your work experience. Wisconsin Technical College System certification staff review each college’s request for certification. If approved, a certificate is issued to you and the college certification office. The technical colleges are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and North Central Association (External Site) which require master degree prepared instructors. The requirements are more extensive than those required for certification purposes under Wisconsin Administrative Rule TCS.3.
